At our core, we believe the choices small businesses make can have an impact. We are very fortunate to get to appreciate this planet for the short time of our experience. Every choice we make has an impact, every step leaving a trace of the past. We believe it’s possible through collective action to forge a new path that considers both the conveniences of modern society and the finite resources from which they are created.

Since 2013, Bar Nine has been a leading voice in both the specialty coffee movement while also working toward a more sustainable future in the coffee space. Since our inception as a coffee roaster and coffee bar, all drinks served to-go are in reusable glass jars that guests return on their next visit, an idea that has now been adopted nationwide by 25+ cafes inspired by our commitment. Our facility is solar powered, we utilize compostable packaging everywhere we can, and donate used espresso grounds for composting.

Beyond this, we have been working diligently on a batch version of espresso we’re calling Pure Espresso. Our patent-pending process leads to zero wasted coffee, saving our coffee bar alone 25% in ingredients used (that’s over 700 lbs of coffee per year in our cafe), along with over 100% reduction in water use, and untold amounts of energy savings. It is the most consistent and sustainable way to a beautiful espresso experience. Pure Espresso and our Glass Jar program can be found at both our flagship bar in Culver along with our all-day cafe, Ten by Bar Nine, in Marina Del Rey.
